The Hunters solicit Bayelsa Govt support in tackling insecurity
Hunters Council of Nigeria, Bayelsa State chapter has made a passionate appeal to the Bayelsa Government to assist the command in terms of provision of logistics, communication gadgets, torch lights and monthly overhead to run the activities of the command.

The Commander, Hunters Council of Nigeria, Bayelsa chapter, Hunter Felix George, made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in the Command’s headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

According to Hunter George, the security outfit is adopting the community policing strategic model in the fight against crime, stressing that as the name implies it personnel are recruited from the communities and neighbourhoods.

He noted that insecurity would be effectively tackled and reduced to its bearest minimum when the security personnel are recruited from the communities and neighbourhood because those living in the community and neighbourhood have good understanding of the terrain.

The Bayelsa Commander explained that Hunters in the Northeastern part of the country are in the forefrount in the battle against the insurgents primarily becuase of their understanding of the terrain, regreting that becuase of the love for their fatherland many of them have paid the supreme price.

The hunters helmsman in Bayelsa urged the state Government to emulate Cross Rivers State and other Northeastern states that have been supporting hunters in terms of logistics and finance to combat crime, emphasizing that hunters in these states have been playing significant role in fighting insecurity.

Commander George said the command has about one thousand three hundred personnel effectively trained and deployed to all the nooks and crannies of the state, with the mandate to report suspected cases of crime to the conventional security agencies.

He noted that apart from engaging criminals in the fight against insecurity, the command has also adopted a sensitization approach by embarking on roadwalks and shows to sensitize the youths against the use of hard drugs, stating that most crimes are committed with the influence of drugs.

He highlighted the command’s collaboration with other security agencies, notably, the Police, Army and the Civil Defence in fighting criminality and recounted the Hunters mandate of arresting criminals and handing over to the law efforcement agencies for prosecution.

Commander George while commending men of the command for their professionalism, respect for constituted authority, charged them not to take the law into hands.

He called on the youths to avail themselves of the opportunities in the Hunters Council of Nigeria by been recriuted to serve their fatherland, adding any youth willing to be enlisted most be resident in Bayelsa for a period of ten years, of impeccable character and well behaved.
