VC Bayelsa Medical Varsity assures students of improved academic conditions, welfare

The Vice Chancellor of Bayelsa State Medical University, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu has given the assurance that the management of the institution is working around the clock to ensure that the demands raised by the students are addressed.
 
Etebu gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen at the University campus in Yenagoa after students of the institution embarked on a peaceful protest to demand amongst other things provision of a conducive learning environment, improved power supply, accreditation of courses and provision of security.
 
According to Etebu, the University management held a meeting with the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, where it was agreed on the need for improved quality based education at affordable cost and the upscaling of learning condition for all law abiding students pursuing medical programmes at the University.
 
He noted that management has started to address the students’ geniune request by adjustment and modification of examination timetable, improve power supply through the provision by Dr. Gentle Emelah of a two100 KVA stand by Generating set, improve welfare and social amenities on campus and guaranteed accreditation via on going negotiation with NUC  and JAMB.
 
 Further, the BMU Vice Chancellor stated that the a favourable and conducive learning environment is being created for students, extension of library hours for academic bookworms, recruitment of additional lecturers for specialised courses, upgrade of internet services on campus, upscaling of campus security and surveillance and creating the platform for students to apply for students loan at considerable time.
 
” The university has signed an MoU with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) to serve as the interim University Teaching Hospital while Government will upgrade the 500 bed Hospital which has been vandalized by hoodlums to serve as a permanent Teaching Hospital 
 
” Accreditation of Medicine and Surgery and other programmes is on course and management will fast track the process with NUC and JAMB to capture students at 300 level while also promising to attend to outstanding issues,” he said.
 
The pioneer Vice Chancellor of the BMU further reiterated the committment of the university to finding lasting solutions to the students greviances and urged them to adhere to the processes the institution is adopting to finalize the resolution of all outstanding matter.
 
Etebu while stating that management is working assiduously to put all necessary measures to address all students concerns, also restated management resolve to ensure that students enjoy uninterrupted power supply, water as well as all other amenities they deserved.
 
He called on students who embarked on the peaceful protest to be patient with the institution and promised that the university management is committed to address their legitimate demand of inclusion.
 
He appealled to law abiding students not to stampede the university management with excessive pressure but always seek peaceful and legitimate avenue to address their challenges as management is ever willing to listen to their complaints.
