The member representing Ogbia Constituency 3 and Chief Whip of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly,, Hon Gabriel Ogbara has denied the rumour of the alleged relocation of RDA headquarters from Kolo community to Emeyal 11 because of George Turnah’,s support for the minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
George Turnah who was a former aide to Governor Doyle Diri hails from Kolo community and has recently pitched his political tent with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike due to a rift with governor Diri.
Kolo RDA created by the administration of late DSP Alamieyeseigha in 2000 was meant to make governance accessible to the people at the grassroots though not recognized by the federal government.
Speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Ogbara denied the claims that Bayelsa government moved the RDA headquarters from Kolo to Emeyal 11 community to settle political scores with George Turnah for his political stance.
It would be recalled that George Turnah has floated a political group”New Associate” which plans to organize a rally to thank the FCT Minister for appointing sons and daughters of Ijaw nation into political positions.
Making the clarification following to a protest by the people of Kolo community that the government has finalized moves to relocate the RDA headquarters to Emeyal 11, Ogbara explained that government in receipt of a notice for the creation of new local governments areas had to submit a new LGA with headquarters at Emeyal 11 community.
He further explained that before taking the decision he consulted widely with stakeholders and they all agreed that Emeyal 11 should be the headquarters of the proposal new local government area being the Constituency headquarters
He emphasized that there was no time government planned to remove the RDA headquarters from Kolo, adding that Kolo still remains the headquarters of the RDA.
His words: ” The federal government proposed creating new local government areas so we as Assembly members we don’t do it on our own. We made a consultation and everyone we consulted agreed that the new local government headquarters should be at Emeyal 11 being the district headquarters of the Constituency.
” The RDA headquarters still remains at Kolo and it will still remain at Kolo till tomorrow. The people that embark on the protest didn’t not understand what happened people always carry rumour as it it a business the people didn’t not get details of what happened.
” We call all the stakeholders in Ogbia local government to really ascertain where the headquarters of the proposed new local government would be cited and everyone agreed that let it be at Emeyal 11. We tried to explain it to the people of Kolo but they didn’t not understand. It is not only me that took that decision all the Assembly members in Ogbia, one APC Assembly member and two PDP members together with all stakeholders in Ogbia agreed on Emeyal as the headquarters of new local government.
” No body removed the RDA headquarters from Kolo to Emeyal 11 because of George Turnah. Who is George Turnah that People will because of him remove the headquarters? Turnah is nobody in Bayelsa State.”
Ogbara highlighted his achievements within two years as an Assembly member, saying that he has been embarked on the construction of 200 metres concrete walkway in Elebele community, 200 metres concrete walkway in Emeyal 11, built a pavilion in Kolo town, built a town hall in Amurokeni community as well other impactful empowerment progtammes for his Constituent.
He described Governor Douye Diri as the best governor since the creation of the State, in terms of development projects executed, empowerment and welfare of Bayelsans and urged the people to continue to support the governor to experience more development.
