The Mbiama Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State is witnessing a significant development boost, driven by the efforts of its youthful and vibrant Paramount Ruler, His Royal Highness Otovie Smith Sylvanus.
HRH Sylvanus expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for initiating work on the long-abandoned East-West Road.
He highlighted the strategic importance of the Mbiama market, which will greatly benefit from the completed road project, enhancing commercial activities and boosting the local economy.
He expressed concern over the current state of the Mbiama market, citing safety risks due to its location on the road, emphasizing the need for relocation to prevent potential loss of life, revealing that the local government had previously procured land for a new, ultra-modern market featuring amenities like a police station, clinic, and motor park. However, the project’s progress has stalled due to changes in government administrations.
As an initiative to foster unity among his subjects, HRH Sylvanus has been sponsoring football competitions, with two tournaments, an inter-tribal and inter-street competition, have been organized, promoting unity and cooperation within the community.
The Paramount Ruler has declared zero tolerance for cult activities, drug abuse, and other vices in Mbiama, collaborating with law enforcement agencies as this efforts have led to a significant reduction in crime, with over 60% of young people involved in such activities reportedly repenting.
While refraining from making political statements, HRH Sylvanus expressed regret over the economic impact of the state of emergency declared in Rivers State, resulting in decreased economic activities affecting his people, hoping for a swift return to normalcy.
The Paramount Ruler urged the appropriate authorities to resume the ultra-modern market project, which will attract diverse development, increase internally generated revenue, create jobs, and implement social amenities.
